NEWSLETTER November 2008

Our kayak launch is just a short 10 minute paddle to 3 Sister's Springs. Take a trip down to see these beautiful, invigorating, fresh water springs. Three Sister's Springs is a 2nd magnitude spring. Straight out of the aquifer, this spring rejuvenates all sorts of living water creatures including us.

Help us all SAVE THREE SISTERS from development.

This is too beautiful a natural spring to go to private condo and home ownerships. We as well as other businesses and organizations are taking donations to help the City of Crystal River purchase the property and save it from development. It should be for all of us to enjoy, not a choice few.

A Crystal River Kayak Company has joined together with Friends of the Crystal River State Parks to bring to the public an educational as well as fun historical and archeological kayak tours. We're very excited about this joint venture. This will do so much for our park and community.

Several different kayak tours will be guided by the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN) which is made up of Archaeologists from USF.

They will take us to historical sites rarely seen and some unable to reach by land travel. View and learn about how early inhabitants of this area lived, worked, played and survived. See the mounds and kitchen middens while learning of the history.

We now have the return of the Archaeological Park's ‘Moon Over the Mounds’ walking tours.  October 10th is the first one of the new season. Rangers and volunteers guide you along torch lit pathways. The group will walk through the park after dark and see the mounds in a different atmosphere. The guides and USF Archaeologists tell of the Ancient's culture and how they lived in our area. Certain night tours will be preceded by a kayak tour around the perimeter by water. See and hear about the area and famous Temple Mound by waterfront. For more information on the walking tours call: 352-563-0450

HERITAGE ECO RIVER TOURS: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 10:30 AM and 1:30PM Tours are nearly 1 1/2 hrs. in length. cost is $10 per adult and $8 per children 6 and above. Under 6 free. Must be at the dock 15 minutes prior to departure.

SUNSET CRUISES: Next cruise is 9/26 at 6:30 PM. Adults $10, Children under 12 $8.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE

KING'S "BAY WATCH"

6AM--8:30AM  Limit 10

FREE
- - Call K&B TO SIGN UP FOR THIS

Join us for ‘BAY WATCH’  our sunrise paddle with a purpose, to clean-up trash in the King's Bay waterways and around our islands.

WE LEAVE FROM OUR SHOP BEFORE SUNRISE.

We have picked up tires, lounge chairs and cushions, a car headliner, floor mats, 2 large foam floats, loads of recyclables, sandals, flippers, beach balls, golf balls, dozens of plastic bags, and of course the unfortunate amount of beer and soda cans and bottles.  Join us to remove trash from our ecosystem.  Manatees, birds, fish, and humans are all influenced negatively by the trash.  We have found business that will re-use our packing materials and we recycle cardboard, plastics, and any recyclable items pulled from the waters. You'll be given a refuse sack and a grabber stick if you don't have your own.

Filling this Sit-On-Top kayak is just some of the trash taken out of the waterways. And yes, this was one trip.

At Kayaks and Beyond, A Crystal River Kayak Company, We believe that every day can be used to protect the EARTH. We recycle all our junk mail, cardboard boxes, plastics, cans, and glass. We ask for your help in keeping this world clean and safe for us, our children and their children.

We Recycle. The landfill is full enough. Join us to put our garbage back to use.

Don't just CLAIM to be ECO Friendly---BE Eco Friendly!
