Why should I buy an aluminum trailer when steel costs less?
Maintenance Free. Never needs painting and won't rust away, especially in a salt air environment like coastal regions.
Half the weight of steel means smaller cars can tow these Trailex Aluminum Kayak and Canoe Trailers.
The single model can also be used as a dolly as it has a handle on the front and is light weight enough to handle easily.
Shipping costs are less and most can be shipped UPS to your door.
Environmentally stable, Aluminum is recyclable.
Why such little tires? I like big tires. I feel safer.
It took a long time for the industry to accept aluminum as better than steel too. (They don't make steel airplanes for a reason)
Trailex uses only highway rated tires with highway rated bearings. No reason to worry.
Smaller tires are just as safe and effective and cost a lot less to maintain and replace.
Smaller tires are lighter, therefore allowing better fuel economy.
If you MUST have a larger tire, then the wheel fenders are sized to allow for a larger tire.
What is the shipping for these trailers?
UPS ships most of the smaller trailers.
Shipping is free in the lower 48 states. Call for quotes to other areas.
For larger trailers, they are shipped common carrier and shipping fees vary. Call for quotes.
What tools do I need for assembly?
Almost the whole trailer is assembled using a 9/16" wrench. Special anodized locking nuts and bolts are non-corrosive, non-rusting.
NO U-BOLTS. This means nothing to loosen, break or have wiggle loose.
The aluminum extrusions are designed and made here in the US, and the special made bolts lock into special grooves on the extrusions.
The axle is adjustable too which means you can adjust your tongue weight. Most other trailers are fixed.
Why can't I just buy a utility trailer at the hardware store? They're a lot cheaper.
You can.
Shorter tongue means you can't turn left or right for fear of hitting the front of the boat on the side of the car.
By the time you modify that "cheaper" trailer you end up spending more.
Utility trailers have utility rated tires and bearings. Not for long hauling or highway use.
Utility trailers are made of steel. Heavier, NOT maintenance free, will rust, and cost more in the long run.
"I learned how to weld in school"... or "I have a cousin, who has a friend, who knows someone who knows how to weld"... I'll just make one...
I hear that one a lot. Then go for it. Some people are handier than others and have all the tools and equipment and materials at their disposal.
Usually by the time you get all the material, you've still got a trailer that will rust or is too heavy, and costs more in the long run. Remember... What is your time worth?
What if I'm having trouble with assembly or have more questions?
Trailex is the leader in Aluminum trailer design and manufacture. You call them up and they will help you over the phone. You need something, they'll send it to you right away, or replace it as needed. These people are here to stay and the company is solid.
Since the material and trailers, parts, accessories, are all made right here in the US, there's no waiting on a slow boat from China, or design flaws, or parts that don't fit. Each trailer is put together at the factory, then disassembled, boxed up, and shipped out.
